This essay will research the issue whether religion and spirituality can positively affect health. It will explain the differences between religion and spirituality and will research the religion importance in human life as religion or spirituality have a lifestyle for many individuals. Historically religion and spirituality have been seen primitive. People have believed to higher powers as sun, water, air etc. Around the world there are different religions such as Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, Hinduism and more. However, all of them have common aspects as beliefs to higher power trough certain religious rituals. As Moreira-Almeida, Neto and Koenig have suggested â€Å"Religion is an organised system of beliefs, practices, rituals, and symbols designed to facilitate closeness to the sacred or transcendent (God, higher power, or ultimate truth/reality)† (2006, cited in Indian J Psychiatry. 2013 Jan; 55(Suppl 2): S187–S194). Furthermore, spirituality is chosen individually by person and sometimes could be outcome of religion beliefs. It is â€Å"deep-seated individual sense of connection through which each person s life is experienced as contributing to a valued and greater â€Å"whole,† together with a sense of belonging and accep tance.
